Sena Kunjo, a long-standing landmark within Dhaka Cantonment, holds deep social and ceremonial importance as it hosts both official events of the Bangladesh Armed Forces and community functions such as weddings and gatherings. To preserve its legacy while addressing new functional demands, Studio Dhaka was entrusted to redesign the complex with a holistic architectural and landscape approach. The vast site was re-envisioned with lush greenery, a reflective waterbody, and a podium designed for the Honorable Prime Minister’s addresses during national events. The ground floor accommodates key service areas including food lifts, dishwashing zones, ablution, and administrative offices with modern CCTV and fire safety systems, while the first floor highlights a grand double-height community hall complemented by a green room and a dedicated PM room.

Two striking terracotta murals—one portraying the Father of the Nation inspiring freedom and another capturing the vibrant life of Bangladeshi people—anchor the building’s cultural narrative and celebrate national identity. The redesigned landscape introduces a symmetrical layout and an inviting entrance promenade, transforming the exterior into an interactive, welcoming forecourt. The addition of a delicately patterned metal screen enhances the building’s façade with a balanced, contemporary expression that harmonizes with the concrete and terracotta textures. Overall, the project reflects a thoughtful dialogue between heritage and modernity—revitalizing Sena Kunjo as both a symbol of national pride and a vibrant space for communal and state functions.
